Sergeant Major Adam M. Gharati, a native of Lubbock, Texas, entered the Marines Corps in April of 1998. Upon graduation, and completion of Marine Combat Training, he reported to Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, NC where he received the MOS of 1371, Combat Engineer.
Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Gharati has been assigned as a Combat Engineer, M249 SAW Gunner, Demolitions Man and fire team leader with Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division; squad lead with 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group; Landmine Warfare and Countermine Instructor with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division; Marine Security Guard and Assistant Detachment Commander in Beijing, China and Ankara, Turkey; Interim Detachment Commander in Baku Azerbaijan; Cross-Boundary, Engineer Chief and Platoon Sergeant with 2nd Intelligence Battalion; Demolitions, Landmine Warfare, Explosive Hazards Instructor with Marine Corps Engineer School; Engineer Operations Chief with Combat Logistics Battalion-8, 2nd Marine Logistics Group; Assistant Operations Chief, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group; Company First Sergeant Headquarters Battalion, MCAGCC MAGTFTC; 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division; and Inspector and Instructor First Sergeant, Engineer Service Company, Springfield Oregon.
Prior to his current post with Naval Amphibious Force, TF 51/5th MEB, MARCENT, he served as the Station Sergeant Major for Recruiting Station Charleston, West Virginia; the Station Sergeant Major for Recruiting Station Columbus, Ohio; the Station Sergeant Major for Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan and the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Manpower Plans and Policy Division, M&RA.
He has deployed with 2nd Intelligence Battalion in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 6.1 from August 2005 to March 2006; 2nd Intelligence Battalion in support of Operation IRAQI FREDOM 7.1 from September 2006 to April 2007; Combat Logistics Battalion-8 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 11.1 from January 2011 to July 2011; 8th Engineer Support Battalion in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.1 from October 2011 to February 2012; and 1st Battalion, 7th Marines in support of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE from October 2015 to May 2016.
Sergeant Major Gharati's personal awards include the Legion of Merit with gold star in lieu of second award, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Military History.
